Sub-National Workshop on CDRFI Policy Advocacy

On January 13, the Sub-national workshop on Climate and Disaster Risk Financing and Insurance (CDRFI) Policy Advocacy was held in Khulna, focusing on the demands of vulnerable coastal communities for disaster compensation financing and the construction and renovation of sustainable, environmentally-friendly embankments and sluice gates.



Organized by AOSED in cooperation with CARE Bangladesh, the workshop aimed to identify and advocate for grassroots demands through participatory processes. The event brought together representatives from Khulna, Satkhira, and Bagerhat districts, with the goal of analyzing the rationale of these demands and developing effective advocacy strategies for policymakers.



The workshop was moderated by agriculturist Dr. S.M. Ferdous, with a welcome address by AOSED Executive Director Shamim Arfeen. Key speakers included Dr. Tushar Kanti Roy of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET), Bidyut Kumar Saha from the Khulna Water Development Board, Director of CCJ-B and member of WIM-Excom Advocate Hafijul Islam Khan, Assistant Professor Rifat Jahan Usha of Khulna Agricultural University, and Md. Ashraful Alam, Executive Engineer of the Water Development Board.



Other notable participants included CARE Bangladesh Deputy Director Mritunjoy Das, Union Parishad Chairman M. Mofidul Haque, journalists, technical experts, and community representatives. Discussions emphasized actionable solutions for disaster risk financing and environmentally sustainable infrastructure development to address the challenges faced by climate-vulnerable communities.
